Thoughts of a TITAN: The Cause or Effect

Upon awaking this morning I became aware of the Michael Brown verdict. While I understand everyone's frustration and anger there is one thing I am VERY confused about.... Are they riled up because of the 'Cause' or the 'Effect'?

I understand and agree that it was a very bad situation that clearly went the wrong way however I can't help but to be more concerned with the cause of the overall situation. The problem is way deeper than Michael Brown or the police. In my opinion it stems from our very own people. When one of our people takes the life of one of our own there is no uproar and at times most aren't even made aware. We see people wearing shirts saying "Free so and so" but meanwhile Mr "so and so" committed a crime or we put on display for the world to see our people fighting like animals with each other. My concern is, if we don't raise concern or hold our people with respect then NOBODY will. How can we as a people be so mad at the police in the Michael Brown case or the verdict that let the police off when it's seen every day in our neighborhoods with our own people and it's seems as if it's "just another day". I do agree that wrong is wrong no matter how you put it or how the jury sees it BUT nothing will be fixed by rioting or causing an uproar in a physical/threatening manner because that is the same behavior that makes those in power feel like what they will do is already a necessity. Just think about it.... If you go into a nice neighborhood (no matter the race of people in the neighborhood) the police act different than in urban neighborhoods and there's a reason for this. Reason is, if you see police in a nice neighborhood then they were more than likely called for a reason by a resident of the neighborhood BUT in urban neighborhoods the police are in regular pursuit because of what regularly goes on in the neighborhood. i just truly believe that if as a whole we treat ourselves better and with more respect then others will follow suit. It will not be overnight BUT we definitely will have better chances of NOT seeing this Michael Brown situation happen again and again and again like it's "ok" because it is NOT "OK". It won't be until WE choose to acknowledge that what our people do to each other is NOT "ok" will we begin to see a change in the right direction. Even if it's a small change, that is a start. A start is all it takes....

2 dead bulbs won't light a room and we as a people have been a dark room for QUITE some time. Let's get a fresh bulb and have some light shine in our room.
